Product Description
In Edirne, the Ottoman Capital, the architectural, cultural, and social characteristics of Edirne are revealed through works from all past periods of the city, with the vast majority being Ottoman. The aim is also to present this ancient city as a whole, approaching it with a historical perspective looking back at the past.
The fact that the end of the Ottoman Empire, especially at the beginning of the 20th century, and almost all of its political, social, and tangible consequences occurred in Edirne itself, indicates the significant role the city plays for our country, history, and culture.
In the book, the city is examined at three main settlement and building scales: "Edirne City Center", "Old Outer Regions", and old neighborhoods, streets, and residences in "New Inner-City Regions". Since there are numerous monumental works and examples of civil architecture with historical and architectural value in these settlement areas, only the very important, well-known, non-ruined, and restored ones could be included. The majority of these works consist of important külliyes, mosques, madrasahs, caravanserai, bridges, synagogues, churches, official buildings, Turkish baths, fountains, tombs, historical avenues, streets, and houses and mansions.
In Edirne, the Ottoman Capital, the short histories of the city's neighborhoods, the construction dates of architectural works, their architectural characteristics, the physical and functional changes they have undergone, their socio-cultural backgrounds, aesthetic values, and their architectural design and planning accumulations are presented in a holistic manner.
