Product Description
Pınar Köylü and Oğuz Yılmaz aim to contribute to addressing the lack of printed publications in Turkish on "landscape design," one of the fundamental areas of landscape architecture, through this book. They also seek to establish linguistic unity regarding the theoretical infrastructure in this field and to strengthen the connection between theory and practice. The authors of this book, the first of two publications on landscape design, summarize their reasons for undertaking such a work as follows:
"The fact that there are sometimes differences in the usage of some concepts in domestic and international sources, which also cover different professional fields related to design, and sometimes the absence of a common linguistic unity, leads to some problems and/or difficulties in professional communication. Therefore, one of the aims of this book is to research the origins and meanings of these concepts, find their equivalents in pure Turkish, incorporate them into our language, and ensure linguistic unity regarding visual expression."
Although the writing of this book, which evolved step by step through our mutual discussions that sometimes lasted for hours over a single word whenever we found time outside of teaching, took a long time, we must state that these discussions were the most thought-provoking and educational parts for us. In the book, to demonstrate how the environment can be approached from the perspective of a landscape architect in terms of theoretical design concepts, we primarily used our own photographs. When these were insufficient, we searched for images on international networks to find the visuals that best explained the subject. This also provided us with the opportunity to develop our creative and critical thinking skills, which are indispensable for design.”
Primarily prepared for landscape architecture students and academics, as well as landscape architects, this book also aims to shed light on students, scientists, and professionals from other fields related to architecture, interior architecture, and design, helping them develop perspectives on how design is approached from a landscape architecture standpoint.
