The Mythology of Art: What Art Tells Us: From Cave Walls to the End of Antiquity

Myths encompass the psychology of ancient people, their identity concerns, their worldviews, and, of course, their beliefs, among many other things. They are sacred words that open the door to different worlds beyond the one humans inhabit and to eternal life. Art, on the other hand, stems from a psychological need for this hypothetical world, shaped by language, to be embodied with all its figures; it is the concretization of the invisible, of that which wishes to be seen, for the eye that wishes to see. Both arise from the discrepancy between the lived and the dreamt life.
In this book, we will journey from art to myth at times, and from myth to art at others. We will witness how meaning is attributed to a painting sometimes, and how a meaning can be depicted visually at other times.
