Product Description
From a simple perspective, a city planner is someone who plans and directs urban development above ground. However, the fact that a city cannot exist without infrastructure establishes the planner's mandatory relationship with infrastructure. The planner influences the formation and costs of infrastructure projects with the decisions they directly make, and also has to evaluate the current state and potential development of infrastructure in their analyses for understanding the city, as infrastructure developments affect the city, which is the object of planning.
It would not be wrong to say that the history of urban infrastructure is as old as the history of the city itself, because it is impossible to talk about the existence of a city without infrastructure. However, infrastructure has developed/diversified faster than cities, and this development trend continues to accelerate. This development trend transforms the socio-economic life in the city as much as its spatial structure. This situation necessitates city planners to increase their knowledge to more accurately identify/understand the infrastructure-city relationship.
On the other hand, with the current scale of urbanization, its environmental impacts not only in its immediate vicinity but also at a global level are an important subject of debate. This situation brings to the agenda the necessity of addressing issues related to urban technical infrastructure not only from an engineering perspective but also from an ecological one. Infrastructure emerges as an important parameter in the goal of planning and designing more sustainable/livable cities. This book has been prepared specifically to enable city planners to think along these lines regarding the relationship between infrastructure and the city, and urban infrastructure and city planning.
