Product Description

A significant number of mosques made with wooden materials have been built in the Black Sea Region. The dates of some of these mosques, built using traditional construction techniques, can be traced back to the Turkish history in Anatolia. These mosques, usually located in rural areas, were constructed using the log cabin technique, mostly without nails, by means of an interlocking method.

This work focuses on 27 village mosques built with the log cabin technique in Sinop city center and its districts. According to our findings, the distribution of these mosques is as follows: the highest number of mosques, 8 in total, were built in the villages of Ayancık. Ayancık is followed by Boyabat with 5 mosques, Dikmen with 4 mosques, Durağan and Türkeli with 3 mosques each, and the districts of Merkez, Erfelek, Gerze, and Saraydüzü with one mosque each. Therefore, according to our study, village mosques built with the log cabin technique are still found in all districts of Sinop province, including the city center.
