Product Description
This study illuminates Surrealism's critical architectural perspective by examining the concepts of "formless architecture" and "endless space" put forth by two Surrealists, George Bataille and Frederick Kiesler. Surrealists challenged the rationalism of the dominant architectural discipline and its hegemony over life. Frederick Kiesler's "endless spaces" proved instrumental in questioning established architectural understanding. Bataille's "formlessness" complements Kiesler's "endlessness." These two figures became influential in the avant-garde's efforts to dismantle architecture and urbanism, particularly after World War II.
