A Gift to Uğur Tanyeli

Uğur Tanyeli, one of Turkey's leading figures in architectural history and theory, has made significant contributions to the field through his work at academic institutions such as the Academy of Fine Arts, Istanbul Technical University, Anadolu University, Yıldız Technical University, Mardin Artuklu University, Istanbul Bilgi University, and Istanbul Şehir University; through the books and articles he has written, the lectures he has given, the theses he has supervised, the architectural exhibitions he has organized/curated with the sponsorship of various institutions, and Arredamento Mimarlık magazine, which he has coordinated for 29 years. Tanyeli's academic output, in terms of both quantity and quality, has reached a level of intensity that forms an important layer of architectural history and theory in Turkey. And at this point, it seems time to punctuate or open a parenthesis in Tanyeli's ongoing academic production with a festschrift.

This work offers an interdisciplinary contribution to the interpretation of Tanyeli's place in architectural theory and historiography, as well as to academic studies and discussions on different periods and layers of architectural, cultural, and design history.
