This book serves as a fundamental resource for students studying civil engineering and architecture, as well as students of Construction Departments in Vocational Schools and all secondary education students in vocational technical education.
Building knowledge is a branch of science that contains the necessary information for the construction of building elements in accordance with technical rules. Care has been taken to ensure that the information provided here is in line with standards and generally accepted application methods and techniques. Modern building materials have not been overlooked in this process.
This volume, which is the first of a three-volume work prepared as Building Knowledge-I, Building Knowledge-II and Building Knowledge-III, includes topics such as the definition and types of structures, building materials, walls, chimneys, plasters, foundation soil, foundation construction, retaining walls, concrete technology, formwork, insulation works, and paints and whitewashes.
The book includes applications with entirely modern and new materials, in accordance with the Turkish Standards published in this field and the technical specifications of the Ministry of Public Works and Settlement. Due to the widespread and broad target audience of the book, great care has been taken to support the work with very clear and understandable figures, texts, and visuals. I would like to thank the individuals and organizations whose works and technical documents were used in the preparation of the topics.
