Structural Elements - 1

The lecture notes for the building elements -1 course, taught by Prof. Dr. M. Oktay Cansun at the ITU Faculty of Architecture and, since 2012, at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University's architecture department, have been reorganized. The figures have been drawn digitally by Research Assistant Architect M. Emin Akyürek and compiled into a book. At the end of the book, the original freehand drawings of the author are presented.

The book is limited to foundation and walls within the scope of building elements. As a continuation, the book will be prepared to include floor slabs, stairs, roofs, and joinery, which are referred to as fine construction. Information defined by terms such as Building, Building Knowledge, Building Elements, or Construction, and forming the fundamental subjects of architectural education, are topics that students find difficult to grasp in their early years. At the same time, this knowledge is essential for the maturation and realization of architectural design. The success of architectural design is closely related to the accuracy of its details, which is only possible by learning fundamental building knowledge.

With these features, the book fills a significant gap.
