FOREWORD

The theoretical part of quantity and cost calculations is covered in schools. However, since practical quantity surveying is an approximate method, it is left to practice.
It is one of the most common issues in the market for landowners to ask technical personnel to calculate the foundation excavation depth (m), the amount of timber for formwork (m3), the amount of rebar (tons) according to their diameters, the amount of sand-gravel (aggregate) (m3) for concrete, and the amount of cement in bags or (tons) for the structure they will build on their land, even before the architectural project, preliminary project, and structural reinforced concrete project have been prepared.
Technical personnel who are new to the profession often witness foremen and masters calculating the material quantities for structures, leading them to assume that theoretical knowledge from school is not useful in practice.
Technical personnel in official and private sector construction sites also fall under the influence of the same prejudice when they realize that they cannot quickly calculate subcontractor works and the amount of material to be stocked on site.
To perform quantity calculations practically, some preliminary assumptions need to be known. The accuracy of these assumptions is a method that experienced individuals have confirmed over years of using the same data in practice.
Since practical quantity calculations without preparing quantity and cost calculations according to the technical and special specifications of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization can lead to errors, the topics (productions) have been addressed by considering the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization's item numbers first, thereby establishing a connection between the methods.
Thus, the productions to be surveyed will first be introduced, then unit price descriptions will be provided, and by connecting them to the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization's calculation principles, miscalculations will be prevented.

Chapters 1 to 18 of the book provide explanations for the production items required for quantity surveying.
In Chapter 17 of the book, practical quantity assumptions were made by adhering to item numbers. The reliability of practical calculations was checked by performing order control with the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization's calculation principles.
In Chapter 18; extensive space has been given to auxiliary tables that can be used in quantity calculations, providing access to all necessary table information.
In Chapter 17 of the book, the calculation of incomplete production works in residential buildings, both in percentage and cost terms, has been included, utilizing the scoring tables used in determining the level of residential constructions and preparing progress payments. By using these tables, a better understanding of the subject has been provided with six technical expert reports.
With the preparation of the chapters and tables related to mechanics and plumbing in the book; I wish my dear son Bahadır Birecikli, Lecturer Dr. Mechanical Engineer, who assisted in the arrangement of figures, tables, pictures, and pages in other parts of the book, success in his professional life.
The topics, details, pictures, and tables in this book will serve as a handy reference for every technical professional in their daily work, without the need for other documents.
I hope this work will be beneficial to civil engineering students and young colleagues interested in the subject, and I ask for indulgence for any deficiencies.
