The interdisciplinary work carried out by ancient ship experts trained by the Istanbul University team is now enabling the re-identification of long-forgotten shipbuilding traditions. Istanbul University experts, who will examine the anatomy of a total of 27 shipwrecks, became the group that assumed the greatest responsibility in the field after the Istanbul Archaeology Museums, which carried out the Yenikapı Salvage Excavations. The team is trying to bring the shipwrecks under its responsibility back to life through conservation and restoration practices. To this end, a diligent team consisting of faculty members, research assistants, and undergraduate and graduate students of the Underwater Cultural Heritage Conservation Department, established within Istanbul University, is carrying out intensive scientific work on the shipwrecks in the laboratories created within the department.
